Twilitics Launches

August 4, 2009 6:08:31 PM NZST

We've just launched the open beta program for Twilitics, a web-based URL tracking application, targeted at tracking URLs from Twitter.

What is Twilitics?

When a user is registered and logged in, any URL that they shorten is then tracked, and details about the clicks on that URL can be viewed by the user. Twilitics (http://www.twilitics.com) can be just used as a long URL shortener for use in Twitter, where the character limit of each post is a maximum of 140 characters. It gives you a URL in the form http://twu.sh/xyz (17 characters), which, when clicked on, redirects the user to the long URL.

What is tracked?

We track the date and time, and which browser or other application they are using, against each Twu.sh URL.

How should I use Twilitics?

You should register, activate your account on receipt of the confirmation email, log in, then create your first URL. Remember you must be logged in to track the URLs. Copy the http://twu.sh/xyz URL and paste into your next Tweet on Twitter. Then, back on Twilitics, click on the "Show Twu.sh's" menu item. You should see your Twu.sh URL there. Click on the link - it doesn't take you to the link website, but to the analytics page, which shows various graphs of when your link was clicked. Note that this may take a while to load, as several graphs have to be generated.

How do I sign up?

Go to http://www.twilitics.com/register/ and register. Note you'll need a valid email address, and confirm receipt of your email to activate your account.

What does Beta mean?

Beta means it's not quite ready for production, to our standards. That said, we have made sure that the twu.sh side of things is separate from the twilitics.com web side, so that any downtime for URL forwarding is minimised. However, we will be updating the website (twilitics.com) side of things regularly, so if you get an error page, just try back in a few minutes.

Do you want feedback?

YES! Please let me know any issues. How? Just Tweet direct message @twilitics.

What's a Twush?

A Twitter-based crush (http://hashtags.org/tag/Twush). Why did we choose it? Because it's short, the .sh names were available, and it's related to Twitter.

What's next?

A bunch of additional features are planned:

  • Improvement of the display of the graphs
  • Integration with major Twitter desktop applications
  • Integration with Google analytics for cross-media campaign tracking
  • ...anything you suggest that we think is a great idea!

Happy Twu.sh-ing!
